A Fall First

A quick post here to share a few shots of my first ever jack-o-lantern.

This project was much messier than I had ever imagined and although it was pretty while it lasted, it did not last long. Oh, also I learned someone's advice to not make the stars too small or else they would be a pain to cut out was actually good advice and should not have been as quickly dismissed.

Thanks to my sweetheart for always pushing me to try new things. I promise I won't make the shapes so small next time. You da, you da best.

Singapore/Thailand, Part 4 (The End)

We had a few more days in Singapore after getting back from Thailand and we spent one of the days at the zoo. It was expansive and pretty world class. We saw lots of monkeys, reptiles, pygmy hippos and sun bears to name a few. The best, however, had to be catching an orangutan being secretly feed some take out.

The day there started off really hot and humid in an almost suffocating way (even for me), so the torrential downpour we experienced while there was a relief and possibly the highlight of the day for me. We sat at a cafe across from the elephants and watched the rain as the afternoon passed. It was simply heavenly.

The following day was our last in Singapore so we started off with the Singapore Flyer. It's like a giant ferris wheel that gives you great views of the skyline. Totally touristy and pricey, we did not expect to like it nearly as much as we did. There was an audio tour that you could listen to that give lots of interesting information not only on the structure itself but Singapore in general. There seemed to be so much to look at for the entire 30 minute ride. We both decided it's definitely worth doing if anyone plans to go to Singapore anytime.

One thing we do NOT recommend is looking for the merlion. We spent hours wandering around lost despite the maps we referenced time and again looking for this half merman, half lion creature that spits water. Once we found him we realized it was so not worth the effort we had spent. I personally preferred the baby merlion in the plaza behind the real merlion but that could just be due to the resentment I held for the real merlion once I saw how lame he was.

We spent the evening in Clarke Quay, enjoying the scene there before hoping on a boat ride for a night view of the city from a different perspective.

We flew back home early the next morning. Other than it feeling like the trip home was three times as long as the trip out, having terrible seat on nearly every flight segment and my legs and feet swelling to the point I was sure they would burst in flight, the way home was rather uneventful.

All in all our first taste of Asia was full of diversity and beauty and left us ready for more at some time in the future.
