We're back to the old grind. I was worried I'd forget how to do my job completely but fortunately I only forgot a few entries today. I remembered all my passwords and locker combination which I thought would be my biggest hurdle, so after that it was smooth sailing (through the 300+ emails that awaited my return, that is). I got my 5 year anniversary pin today. It was strange to think I've worked for this company for 5 years. That's 2 years longer than I worked for the state or
Applebee's (my previous records for longest employment). It really has flown by since I've been in school full time most of those years and, with the exception of the 2 years I worked in reservations which were horrific, I've really had fun doing what I'm doing and am so grateful for a job I enjoy, albeit not as much as a month long vacation.
So my
SIL,
Debbie, tagged me while I was away and I'm to reveal 6 quirky things about myself. I had to go to Keck and Sissy for some of these since apparently what I might consider normal is actually "quirky." Yikes! Additionally, let it be known this list had to be scaled back to meet the
requirement of just 6 things - whoa...
1. I'm a chanter. I will break into chant without prior notice but most especially if I'm overly excited about something. I even have standard chants that must be completed at certain times. These are my "traditional chants." One example is my "Quicky Picky" chant. It will ring loud and clear in the car as I drive or ride by the Quicky Picky mart off highway 183 in Liberty Hill on the way between Austin and Copperas Cove. This particular chant was encouraged by the cute armadillo on the store's sign and fun name and was not discouraged by the change in said name or armadillo sign several years ago.
2. I get very, very nervous for other people. At the Buenos Aires airport 2 women going to Lima on the 8:10pm flight (the last of the night) were sitting next to us and come 7:45 they were still there next to us. Outside security. Eating crackers. Taking pictures. Eating crackers. Backs to the huge digital clock behind us. Outside security. Outside customs. Waiting for the last international flight to Lima that night. Eating crackers. It literally made me sick. My stomach hurt just thinking these women would miss their flight and have to sleep at the airport which, as I had earlier noted mentally, would be a terrible place to stay overnight due to an awful lack of good sleeping locations and a Patagonian winter chill that filled the place. I got up and made loud remarks about the time and tried to warn them discreetly without overstepping my bounds and saying "Yeah, I was being nosey and looked at your boarding pass. You might want to go through security now since your flight leaves in 15 minutes." I was nauseous and thought I might pass out when they finally asked what time it was and hurried off to got through security at 8:00. It was all terribly stressful for me and I had to be reassured by Keck repeatedly that they must've made their flight after all.
3. I'm a sneezer. When I wake up every morning I break out into a sneeze series. Sometimes it's right away but more often it doesn't begin until I start to really wake up and move about. I also sneeze on the plane when we start our ascent and again on the descent and, of course, after I wake up from any on board nap I may take.
4. I hate hate hate hate hate putting my clean laundry away with a passion normally reserved for the admiration of true, pure natural beauty (like watching the sun dip behind the Andes). I will gladly wash my clothes then put them in the dryer, where they will stay for what I hope will be forever but Keck always ends up doing his laundry too at some point and my plan is foiled. Why can't the dryer be considered acceptable storage space? It's really like a huge drawer. I mean it should be called dresser 2.0 not dryer.
5. I'm quasi-scared of balls or other flying objects coming in my direction. It freaks me out and I think it can be traced to being smacked in the face by a soccer ball. If you have something to give me please hand it to me and don't toss it at me.
6. I'm a boycotter. I will pretty much boycott anything at any time no matter how futile it may seem. I also join in on friends' and family's boycotts if asked (and within reason). Currently on my boycott list are Advantage Rent-a-Car, Starbucks, Wal-Mart and K.T.'s Cafeteria. I just love a good old fashioned boycott!
I'm supposed to tag 6 other
bloggers but since I only know one other than Debbie, I can only tag
Lor'n.
Soon I will start on a trip report for our trip but I plan to do it in installments to heighten the suspense and likewise lessen the burden on myself. Anyway, here's a little preview:
